TELL ME WHAT MAKES YOU TICK AS A PASTOR?
A number of years ago, I spent some time away with God. During that retreat, God ‘spoke’ to me and shared a very personal message: “Frank, I have not created you for insignificance!” That statement…that affirmation has launched me into discovering a newfound passion to make my life count. My daily motivation comes from seeing people around me living incomplete lives…lives that fall short of who God has created them to become. My heart is to help people reach and fulfill their God-given potential. To that end, I will challenge, teach, cajole, flog, bribe, and use whatever means I have available to motivate those around me to settle for nothing less than God’s best and to fulfill their responsibility to advance God’s Kingdom in our generation.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT? WHAT IS A DAILY DRIVE FOR YOU?
My heart is to see people fulfill their God-given potential. When I look at your young people today, I see people who are struggling with insecurities, a lack of purpose, and a lack of impact. I see young people who are hungering for meaning and spirituality, but not looking to Jesus Christ and the church to satisfy that hunger. I simply want to do my part to nurture the passion and gifts in their soul as God has nurtured and grown mine.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WANT AWAKEN CHURCH TO DO WELL?
When I envision our church, I picture a medical clinic set in the midst of a battlefield. And, in that clinic there is a clear responsibility to: (1) be a sanctuary where broken people can find healing and rest, and (2) to arm and equip those same people to return to the battlefield.

The Bible teaches us that we are in the midst of a spiritual war and I want to our people to discover what it is to live in the midst of that reality. The first part of that reality is to have people come and discover a meaningful relationship with God and the church that will help heal and build lives. The second part of that reality is to remind people of our life’s purpose and empower them to daily live out that mandate. I pray our church will do both of these well.

“Some people want to live within the sound of chapel bells, but I want to run a mission a yard from the gates of hell.”
– C.T. Studd

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I really enjoy spending time with my wife and four children. My family has this striking balance of “chaotic-stability” that I love being around. I also enjoy reading, playing video and board games, and whatever sports my aging body is able to endure.

WHAT DO YOU WANT GOD TO SAY ABOUT YOUR TIME ON EARTH?
I know that someday I will stand before the Lord and be accountable for how I have spent my life here. I hope HE will be pleased with how I have tried to be a loving husband, devoted father, empowering pastor, and faithful friend. Most importantly, however, I pray God will look into my eyes and tell me, “Well done, my good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your Master.”

TELL ME WHAT MAKES YOU TICK AS A PASTOR AND CAMPUS DIRECTOR?
If the next generation is going to step up and change the world for Jesus Christ, then the revolution must come from the college demographic. Nowhere else does passion, freedom, and energy collide with the volatility to create a movement that will change the world. In many ways, I believe I have stepped into a war zone and my motivation is to tip the scales in favor of the Kingdom.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT? WHAT IS A DAILY DRIVE FOR YOU?
When asked if I am passionate, I would counter and ask you if I am dangerous. No, I am not a legendary kung fu warrior, like Po the Panda from the movie, “Kung Fu Panda”, but I do believe that I am dangerous. Dangerous for God and dangerous if you mess with my family or friends. I love my Savior and King and I am passionate about His kingdom. I love my wife and am passionate about our marriage. I would also say that I am passionate about seeing people united in loving relationships with each other and Jesus Christ.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WANT MOST FOR AWAKEN CHURCH TO DO WELL?
I want Awaken Church to do all things well, but if I had to pick one thing I would desire for Awaken Church to exist, gather, pray, and seek God in UNITY!

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I love to read just about any book, but my favorite categories are history and sci-fi/fantasy. I also spend a lot of time talking to my wife about Star Wars and Lord of the Rings…yeah, I know I am a geek.

WHAT DO YOU WANT GOD TO SAY ABOUT YOUR TIME ON EARTH?
I would like God to say, “Here is a man who loved Me and loved his family”. Oh, and “He was dangerous.”

TELL ME WHAT MAKES YOU TICK AS A PASTOR?
Before becoming a pastor at AwakenChurch, I had an opportunity to pursue another ministry that would have taken me away from Jacksonville and my church family. Going through that process and submitting the decision to the Lord helped me to realize just how much I loved the community at Awaken and wanted to invest more of myself into serving there. The other opportunity didn’t pan out, and it was shortly thereafter that the Pastors approached me about joining the pastoral team and it seemed like an answer to my prayers. Ever since then I have felt that this is where God wants me to be, serving as a bi-vocational Pastor at AwakenChurch. My heartbeat is to continue to ask God how He can use me to introduce people to God and help them to grow in relationship with Him.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT? WHAT IS A DAILY DRIVE FOR YOU?
I love making people feel welcome and extending hospitality. One thing that I love about our church is the great community we have. As a pastor, I feel so blessed to help new people feel welcome and be part of connecting them to our community of believers . I am motivated when I see people caring for one another and living in community, as we say “doing life together”. I know this happens best if we are first connecting daily with God and seeking to live out His commands.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WANT MOST FOR AWAKEN CHURCH TO DO WELL?
I want AwakenChurch to be known for living out our faith. It is not enough to just know what God says and what is right and wrong but we must be applying it to our everyday lives. Jesus said the greatest command is to Love God and Love people. I hope our church will seek to do that with our whole heart!

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I love spending time with my amazing wife and two sweet children. I also enjoy working on projects around the house, playing disc golf or basketball when I get a chance, and cheering on my favorite Teams- Go Jags and Go Gators!

WHAT DO YOU WANT GOD TO SAY ABOUT YOUR TIME ON EARTH?
That I used my time on earth to glorify Him and build up the church. And that I led my family well and taught them the ways of the Lord.

Lainey Graber – Finance Coordinator

gro.xajhcruhcnekawa@yenial

Lainey is the youngest of four daughters in a family that is devoted to the Lord. From a young age, she learned stories about God with her family at church and memorized bible verses through a local Awana club. She accepted Christ as her savior at a young age, but came to understand that Jesus wanted a relationship with her in eighth grade through the testimony of a friend. Lainey is a witness to the blessing of strong families and parents who disciple their children to love the Lord. She is also witness to the impact that young people can have on those around them.

Now, Lainey is passionate about serving young people in the church – from children’s ministry to college ministry – so that they can experience the fullness of joy that is found in Christ. Currently, Lainey volunteers with AwakenKids and the Awakening (young adults ministry).

Lainey and her husband, Judah, married in 2019. Together, they enjoy backpacking, kayaking, rock climbing, playing board games, and connecting with friends.

Chrissian is a Floridian through and through, being born in Miami, raised in
Tampa and living in every major city besides the capital since. After being raised going to church Chrissian began living for the Lord at 19, a year after he came to AwakenChurch.

Before graduating from the University of West Florida with a degree in Finance, Andrew gave Chrissian a call and pitched him the idea of joining Awaken’s Staff Residency program. It allowed Chrissian to work in ministry in a smaller capacity to figure out if it was something he wanted to pursue long-term.

In May of 2021, Chrissian decided to join staff long-term and was placed in the roles of young adults ministry director and video content creator, maximizing his passions and desires to serve the Lord.

Chrissian loves playing sports, spending time with his extended family, and can often be found at the church 5-6 days of the week or online playing Apex Legends.

Alyssa Matlach – Administrative Services Coordinator

gro.xajhcruhcnekawa@hcaltam.assyla

Alyssa is a devoted follower of Jesus Christ who was born in Tennessee. However, her faith journey didn’t truly take off until her family moved to South Florida during her teen years. There, she developed a deep love for Jesus and a strong desire to serve the Lord and her community. Her unwavering devotion and passion for her faith have guided her throughout her life, leading her to dedicate her time and energy to various churches and ministries.

Currently, Alyssa finds joy in her role at AwakenChurch, where she has been an active member since moving to the area. With a heart for serving and a hunger for knowledge, she constantly seeks to deepen her understanding of God’s Word and share her insights with fellow believers.
